Girl from the Sky  Power Tab, PDF, MIDI, Video

Theme from Hayao Miyazaki's 1986 animation film Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Composed by Joe Hisaishi. This arrangement tries to explore some nice open-string voicings that are easily achievable with re-entrant tuning. Some right hand techniques used in the video, such as multiple-finger roll and triplet strum, are from Jake Shimabukuro's DVD Play Loud Ukulele. January 6, 2006 

 

Super Mario Bros  Power Tab, PDF, MIDI, Video

Video game classic composed by Koji Kondo. There are so many great arrangements out there. Here is my attempt to stay close to the original. December 24, 2005

 

Selection from Asturias  Power Tab, PDF, MIDI

Classical guitar favorite composed by Isaac Albeniz. This arrangement is in the key of F minor, which is taxing for the left hand finger strength, but maintains the melodic structure better. I also tried D minor, which allowed easier fingering and prettier harmony (notes ring longer), but needed transposing up and down in octave because of the ukulele's limited range. I ended up favoring F minor. December 24, 2005

Flight of the Bumblebee Finger Exercise  Power Tab, PDF, MIDI

From Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Arranged in the key of C minor. Rimsky-Korsakov's elegant and powerful orchestration is beyond my ability to capture, but I hope this makes a decent finger exercise. December 24, 2005

 

 

About the Tabs

 

I started playing the ukulele after being inspired by Jake Shimabukuro's incredible live performance. These tabs represent my best effort in trying to play the music I like on my favorite instrument. If you have any suggestion or comment, please don't hesitate to let me know.

 

All tabs are written for  re-entrant C tuning. From 4th to 1st string: G4-C4-E4-A4, where C4 = middle C.
